Telematics

The technology that enables real-time communication and data exchange with a vehicle in motion has tremendous applications to benefit the driver and the automotive industry. Telematics means something different to everyone, but to the independant aftermarket service industry it represents a chance to develop Vehicle Relationship Management (VRM) applications that perform vehicle health reports and remote vehicle diagnostics, anywhere and anytime . .. provided the aftermarket has access to the on-board information network.

AAIA demonstrated an aftermarket proof-of-concept at AAPEX comunicating wirelessly between shop management and informations systems, and the on-board  information BUS - Click here to view the Shop of Tomorrow video demonstration

AAIA has recognized the need to serve as a central industry resource for the most current information and technical specifications about telematics. The aftermarket will benefit from a single set of standards and protocols for telematics applications. Competing technologies will dilute resources and slow time to market. The car manufacturers will deliver 6 million vehicles with some form of telematics capability in 2009. There are over 100 milion vehicles on the roads of America that could be equipped with an aftermarket telematics solution today. The aftermarket can bring connectivity, safety and vehicle reliability to motorists faster and with greater choices.
